MEET REPORTS
· 2006 US NATIONALS PREVIEW
Continuing
what we hope will become an annual tradition, we present our predictions for the
2006 U.S. Championships. This year's competition should provide a much
more exciting competition in the senior division with newcomers Natasha Kelley,
Shayla Worley, and Ashley Priess getting into the mix after their successes in
the junior field. Many of the athletes on the roster have been dealing with
recent injuries and so their statuses are not quite known at this point... so
some of their routines and A scores are likely to change once the competition
rolls around. This includes Chellsie Memmel, Jacquelyn Johnson, Monica Shoji,
Cortni Beers, and Geralen Stack-Eaton. All of this, combined with the fact that
we finally have a team competition at Worlds to look forward to, will make for
an interesting meet.
The junior competition has a higher standard to
live up to than the senior one. Last year's meet came down to the final routines
of Natasha Kelley and Bianca Flohr! Shantessa Pama, Shawn Johnson, Shayla
Worley, and Monica Shoji also provided many memorable moments and routines. This
year looks like it will be all Shawn Johnson, as she's become a real dominant
force in every meet she's been in this year. But... it's still Junior Nationals
and ANYTHING can happen! Plus there's still Pama, Flohr, Samantha Peszek,
Rebecca Bross, Bridget Sloan... the list goes on and on of talented gymnasts to
keep your eye on.
Of course the rankings are strictly our opinions
:) If you have any corrections or additions to the routines listed, please feel
free to send us an email at gymnstands@yahoo.com.
